Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
— John 14:27
Christians sit in silence as some individuals claim to speak for Christianity. Who speak of violence, hatred, and disorder in the name of Christ and Christians. Who cloak themselves in righteousness while defaming the name 'Christian'. I don't believe they represent the majority of Christians. I don't believe they speak for you. And yet...
Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
— Matthew 7:15
Individuals, such as Rick Wiles and Scott Lively, are speaking for you. They are wearing the mantle of 'Christian' while they spew hatred and vile things. They are calling for violence in your name.
If they do not represent you, you must speak out! You must tell your friends and family that they do not represent you. Post on social media that you denounce them, call your local media, contact your representatives. Make your voice heard. If you are a Christian leader who does not support the things people such as Rick Wiles said, contact media organizations to get airtime or page space denouncing them. Document your efforts on your churches' websites, contact news organizations. Show the world what Christianity really thinks and wants to say.
For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.
— 1 John 3:11
Otherwise your silence equals consent. It is a deafening silence when you don't speak out. People such as Rick Wiles will continue to claim to speak for the Christian community, will claim to speak for Christians at large.
